On Saturday 23rd of May the Rotaract Club of Perth hosted the Back2School Quiz night to raise money to purchase solar lamps for children in India. The project to purchase the solar lamps was in partnership with Rotary clubs in India. The Perth Rotaract club set out to light up Rotary (literally!)
The solar lamps are very important to the children as they provide a source of light allowing the kids to study where there may otherwise be a lack of electricity and darkness in their homes. With the light the kids would have the opportunity to further study into the night.
The quiz night was a great success with a sell out guest list. Held at the Irish Club in Subiaco, over 160 people got into there best school themed costumes and uniforms and had a fun night taking part in the quiz questions focusing on school subjects including language, science, geography and commerce. There were table games, colouring-in competitions, dot-to-dot puzzles, and anatomy tests adding to the atmosphere of being back in a classroom. One of the biggest mini games of the night was guessing the teachers pet. This mysterious plush toy in a box, (which turned out to be a honey badger), was successfully guessed correctly by one of the quizzers in the crowd.
Thank you to everyone that took part in the night and played along. Including raffle tickets sold, donations and ticket sales over $2200 was raised to buy the Solar Lamps for the kids in India.
