Jump on board the Soup Patrol Van with us!
The Rotaract Club of Perth has kicked off another year on board the ARC Soup Patrol van, supplying an extra cup of soup and slice of bread to warm and fill the bellies of the homeless and disadvantaged. Every night of the year, Australian Red Cross Soup Patrol vans provide an evening meal of soup and bread to those who are homeless, socially disadvantaged and/or living on very low incomes in various locations throughout Perth and Fremantle. For more information, please see the Red Cross website: http://www.redcross.org.au.
Statistics taken from a 2012 survey conducted by Ruah Community Services reveal that almost 88% of homeless people in Perth are unable to obtain crisis accommodation, and are forced to live in streets or in their cars. The 2011 ABS Census of Housing and Population reveals that on any given night in Australia, 1 in 200 people are homeless. By volunteering their time and taking part in this program, Rotaract Club of Perth volunteers are helping provide these vulnerable and often isolated individuals with a safe and regular evening meal service.
We have been a part of the ARC Soup Patrol program since 2009 and continue to actively volunteer, once or twice a month (or more when we are asked to provide relief shifts) usually on a Wednesday night, in both Perth and Fremantle locations.
We have received an overwhelming response to the project in the past years with a large number of volunteers wishing to join us. As spaces are limited, make sure you get in contact with us if you would like to participate.
Email Grace Ng (email@example.com) if you would like to jump on board!
